Wolves Rye & Hop Signature Blend Flavored Whiskey 750ml
Wolves was founded in California by Jeremy Joseph alongside cultural figures James Bond and Jon Buscemi, marketed as the state's first luxury whiskey brand. The label leans on the artisan work of distiller Marko, who has spent decades distilling finished beer into whiskey, using a small alembic pot still imported from Cognac, France in 1983 to craft each batch of beer-derived spirit.
This signature blend leans heavier on aged rye than earlier Wolves releases, combining 6 and 7 year old rye whiskey with two beer distillates: whiskey made from stout, aged nine years in used French oak, and whiskey distilled from California pale ale, aged seven years in the same wood. No flavoring is added at any stage, though the TTB requires the "hop flavored" designation because the whiskey originates from finished beer rather than a traditional grain mash. The blend is bottled at 103 proof.
The nose brings honeysuckle and citrus together with hop character, milk chocolate, black cherry, and warm vanilla. On the palate, tangerine and dark chocolate meet lingering hop bitterness, oak, and a dusting of nutmeg. The finish runs long and warm up front, with rising spice that builds through the close, a profile suited to sipping neat or building into a bold, citrus-forward cocktail.
