Writer's Tears Copper Pot American Oak Irish Whiskey 750ml
Writer's Tears is produced by Walsh Whiskey, an independent Irish whiskey company founded by Bernard and Rosemary Walsh, who also created The Irishman range. Rather than distilling in-house for this expression, Walsh sources aged single pot still and single malt whiskies from Irish distillers and blends them at their own facility, a model shared by other well-regarded whiskey designers in the industry. The name pays tribute to the great Irish writers of the 19th century, from Joyce to Wilde, who were said to favor this now largely vanished style of blending pot still and malt.
Copper Pot is a marriage of aged single pot still whiskey and aged single malt whiskey, both triple distilled and both matured in American oak ex-bourbon casks. The pot still component is distilled entirely from barley, both malted and unmalted, a hallmark of traditional Irish pot still production that sets it apart from grain-based blends. The whiskey carries no age statement, remains non-peated, and is bottled at 40% ABV.
The nose offers crisp green apple, honey, and vanilla, with a light touch of lemon zest and ginger. On the palate, that vanilla sweetness deepens into caramel and crème brûlée, joined by malty grain notes and warming spice. The finish is long and gently warming, closing on lingering ginger and soft oak.
