Destillerie Purkhart in Austria has produced award-winning eaux-de-vie, schnapps, and liqueurs since 1932, now spanning three generations of family expertise. Günter Purkhart's reputation for exacting standards has made him an influential teacher of distillation technique for other producers in the region, and the Rothman & Winter line is brought to the US by importer Haus Alpenz as part of an effort to preserve authentic, old-world liqueur styles.

This expression is built around several peach varieties, including Roter Ellerstädter and Weinberg, grown in Austria's Oststeiermark region. Some sources also note the use of Weingartenpfirsich, a rare white peach cultivated in the Danube Valley since the 1600s. Purkhart combines fresh peach juice from the seasonal harvest with an eau-de-vie distilled from the same fruit, including both flesh and kernel, then bottles the result at a higher proof with restrained sugar to preserve the fruit's natural intensity.

The nose leads with ripe, fragrant peach, while the palate balances that fruit sweetness with real natural acidity and a subtle bitter almond note from the kernel. It is a true-to-fruit expression rather than a syrupy one, with enough structure to hold its own in cocktails built on bourbon, rye, or rum, or simply topped with soda water or sparkling wine.
