Austria's Destillerie Purkhart has been producing eaux-de-vie, schnapps, and liqueurs since 1932, now in its third generation of family ownership. Günter Purkhart's reputation for precise, consistent distillation has made him a teacher to other producers in the field, and the Rothman & Winter portfolio is brought stateside by Haus Alpenz, which has worked to keep authentic Alpine liqueur traditions available to American bartenders.

This pear liqueur is built from Williams pears, sourced each season from family orchards in both South Tirol and the Danube Valley. As with the rest of the collection, fresh pear juice is combined with an eau-de-vie distilled from the same fruit rather than a neutral base spirit, giving the liqueur genuine varietal character. Purkhart bottles it at a higher proof with less added sugar than many competitors, a choice designed to let the pear's natural aromatics carry through rather than being buried in syrup.

The result offers vivid, true pear aroma without the heavy sweetness found in many commercial pear liqueurs, giving it a cleaner, more refreshing profile. It mixes well with white spirits like vodka or gin, and a small pour brightens a glass of sparkling wine, wheat beer, or plain soda.
