Sauza traces its roots to 1873, when Don Cenobio Sauza founded La Perseverancia distillery in the town of Tequila, Jalisco, and became the first producer to label his agave spirit "tequila" and export it to the United States. The Hornitos line takes its name from Don Cenobio's innovation of cooking agave piñas in small brick ovens, or hornitos, rather than roasting them over open flame, a gentler method that produced a fresher, brighter spirit than earlier techniques allowed. La Perseverancia still operates under NOM 1102 and is now owned by Suntory Global Spirits.

Hornitos Plata is made from 100% blue Weber agave harvested in Jalisco, cooked using that same hornitos method before being double distilled. Unlike Sauza's aged expressions, this plata is bottled unaged straight after distillation, with no barrel contact at all, a choice meant to keep the spirit as close as possible to pure agave in character. It stands out among widely available blanco tequilas for maintaining 100% blue agave at an accessible price point.

The result is floral and herbal on the nose, opening with light citrus and a subtle vanilla marshmallow sweetness before a faint clove spice emerges. On the palate, the entry is smooth and agave-forward, with ripe pineapple and a trace of coconut developing through the mid-palate, closing on a crisp, clean finish that stays true to the plant.

"Hacienda Plata Silver Sauza Hornitos Plata Tequila - New 100 percent blue agave tequila from Sauza, Hornitos Plata is double distilled with hints of fresh, floral notes and clove spice. The clear, crisp taste is a perfect complement to any Hornitos Paloma or margarita."
