The Volcanic Wines of Tenuta delle Terre Nere

The Volcanic Wines of Tenuta delle Terre Nere

Saturday, November 7th | 1-4 PM

Join us for an exclusive in-store wine tasting featuring the critically acclaimed volcanic estate Tenuta delle Terre Nere. Located on the high-altitude, northern slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily, this pioneering winery is widely celebrated as the "Burgundy of Sicily" due to its focus on single-vineyard terroirs (contrade). Meet long-time Brand Ambassador Todd Ruby, who will be in-store pouring the wines andsharing insights into the unique viticulture of Etna.

Founded by legendary wine pioneer Marc de Grazia, Tenuta delle Terre Nere (meaning "Land of the Black Earth") crafts organically farmed, mineral-driven wines rooted in pure volcanic soils. The estate spans extraordinary elevations ranging from 600 to 900 meters above sea level, where dramatic day-night temperature swings preserve vibrant acidity and produce wines of exceptional finesse and tension.

The wines of Mount Etna are celebrated by sommeliers worldwide for their unparalleled food-pairing flexibility. The 2024 Etna Bianco offers a laser-focused, flinty acidity reminiscent of Chablis, acting as a perfect partner for raw oysters, lemon-herb grilled fish, or light poultry. The 2025 Etna Rosato shows incredible adaptability, pairing beautifully with tuna tartare, Mediterranean mezze, or a wood-fired Margherita pizza.

2024 Etna Bianco DOC
Grape Composition: Primarily Carricante, blended with Catarratto, Inzolia, and Grecanico.
Review: "Fresh and floral but with white pepper and a noticeably assertive smoky minerality. Light-bodied, this shines with silky texture and zesty yet integrated acidity." — 94 Points, James Suckling | "Lemon oil mixes with sweet mint and crushed rocks... juicy and playful in feel with ripe melon." — 90 Points, Vinous

2025 Etna Rosato DOC
Grape Composition: 100% Nerello Mascalese.
Description: Sourced from high-altitude volcanic plots, this rosé presents a stunning light copper hue. It features vibrant aromas of wild strawberries, pink grapefruit, and wet stones, carrying a crisp, mouthwatering saline tension that reflects Etna's distinct soils.

2022 Etna Rosso DOC
Grape Composition: 98% Nerello Mascalese, 2% Nerello Cappuccio.
Review: "Incredibly spicy, the 2022 Etna Rosso bursts from the glass with a wild bouquet of cloves and incense, giving way to dried cherries and sage. This is silky-smooth, with cooling acidity lifting its dense core of ripe red berry fruits as crunchy mineral tones resonate throughout." — 92 Points, Vinous | "An ample and ambitious production... with aromas of pressed violet, cassis and Sicilian blood orange." — 93 Points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

2023 Etna Rosso "Calderara Sottano" DOC
Grape Composition: 98% Nerello Mascalese, 2% Nerello Cappuccio.
Description & Terroir: Sourced from the estate's iconic Contrada (cru) covered in large black volcanic stones (ellittici) that retain heat. This produces a broad, powerful, and deeply structural wine built for long-term aging, offering layers of dark forest berries, crushed ash, orange peel, and incense.
