LaRue Wines, founded in 2009 by winemaker Katy Wilson, specializes in small‑lot Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Sonoma Coast. The 2021 Pinot Noir from Rice‑Spivak Vineyard embodies Wilson’s philosophy of capturing each vineyard’s fingerprint alongside the character of that vintage, delivering a true expression of site and season in every bottle.

Rice‑Spivak Vineyard — Sonoma Coast terroir

  • Vineyard size: six acres, located south of Sebastopol
  • Planted in 1999
  • Soil profile: Goldridge sandy loam overlayed with volcanic ash
  • Site orientation and climate: lies within a narrow band of the Sonoma Coast roughly seven to ten miles from the Pacific, where marine influence keeps conditions cool and breezy
  • Clones: Dijon and Swan
  • Winemaking approach: on a case‑by‑case basis, Wilson decides how much whole cluster fruit to incorporate based on vine age and vintage character

Wine profile

The wine offers bright red cherry, cranberry, and rose, layered with savory spice and a silky, energetic texture. Its cool climate structure provides real length and lift on the finish.

Food pairing

This wine pairs beautifully with roasted duck, mushroom risotto, or a simple herb roasted chicken.

94 Points
"Matured for 20 months in 50% new French oak, the 2021 Pinot Noir Rice-Spivak Vineyard has savory aromas of cranberry sauce, prosciutto, burnt orange peel, aniseed and woodsmoke. The light-bodied palate is elegant yet concentrated, offering broody berry flavors. It has a lacy frame of tannins, bright acidity and a long, spicy finish. 50 cases were made."
