The 2022 Vietti Langhe Nebbiolo DOC “Perbacco” delivers a transparent, approachable introduction to Piedmont’s signature grape without sacrificing the elegance associated with Cascina Vietti’s historic winemaking tradition. Sourced from select vineyard sites between Castiglio Falletto and Monforte d’Alba, this vintage captures the bright red fruit and aromatic finesse characteristic of a warm growing season tempered by late-season coastal air flowing down the Langhe hills. The wine presents a medium-light ruby hue with vibrant aromatics of sour cherry, ripe raspberry, crushed violet, and a faint whisper of dried herbs. On the palate, it offers juiciness and structured acidity alongside refined, supple tannins that guide the flavors toward a crisp, clean finish. Unlike heavier regional benchmarks, this bottling prioritizes drinkability and structural balance, showcasing how well-managed Nebbiolo expresses itself without extended wood integration.

Balanced acidity and moderate body make this wine highly adaptable to food. It pairs reliably with roasted herb-seasoned poultry, earthy truffle or wild mushroom risottos, and simple pasta preparations featuring slow-braised lean meats or brick-red tomato sauces. The natural brightness cuts through rich fats comfortably, so it also complements fresh cured meats, delicate shellfish prepared with lemon and olive oil, and soft-ripened cheeses like young Pecorino Toscano or fresh ricotta.

This vintage was crafted for near-term enjoyment and will maintain its freshness through the next three to five years. Serve at cellar temperature (55–60°F) to preserve volatile aromatic compounds. A twenty-minute decant is optional but recommended when opening sooner rather than later; it gently lifts the youthful tannic grip and reveals secondary expressions of dried orange peel, cedar, and subtle baking spices common to traditionally vinified Piedmontese Nebbiolo.

93 Points
"Some fruit from Roncaglie goes into this wine, along with tidbits from other scattered Barolo vineyards. Aged for two years in large oak barrel, the Vietti 2022 Langhe Nebbiolo Perbacco is not too far off from tasting and smelling like a full-fledged Barbaresco, or even a Barolo for that matter, since it does technically have the DNA of both. The fruit is delivered with fresh, vertical intensity, and the wine's texture is firm and tensile. I like this vintage more than I thought I would"
