2023 Samuel Louis Smith - Pinot Noir Pelio Vineyard (750ml)
2023 Samuel Louis Smith Pinot Noir — Pelio Vineyard, Carmel Valley (750ml)
From a hillside block just west of Laureles Grade in Carmel Valley, this Pinot Noir embodies Monterey’s cool maritime character. Pelio Vineyard, planted in 2003 at roughly 1,000 feet elevation, sits on clay loam over ancient shale bedrock and benefits from organic farming that highlights the site’s nuanced mineral lift and bright fruit.
Winemaking & Style
The 2023 vintage was crafted with 80% whole cluster fermentation using native yeast, then aged nine months in mostly neutral French oak. The wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered to preserve its natural texture and expression of the vineyard.
Tasting Notes
On the palate, it presents a light-bodied frame with elegant tannins and lively acidity. Aromas of fresh cut flowers and wild cherry mingle with a saline, sea-breeze edge, layered with sweet herbs and red berries for a nuanced, coastal character.
