2024 Aubert - Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast CIX Estate (750ml) [PRE ARRIVAL]
Producer
CIX holds a special place in Mark Aubert's portfolio as the estate's first ever Pinot Noir grown entirely on land the Auberts own themselves, rather than sourced from a grower partner. The name comes from the vineyard's original designation as parcel 109 when Aubert purchased the property, a nod to its earliest days before it became one of the estate's flagship sites. Planted in a notably cool pocket near Forestville, the site was chosen specifically for its potential to produce something closer to red Burgundy than the riper, more expansive style found elsewhere in the Aubert range.
Growing and Production
The vineyard's cool microclimate slows ripening considerably, giving the fruit time to develop delicate aromatics and finer tannic structure rather than raw power. Because the site is fully estate owned, Aubert has complete control over farming decisions here, allowing for the kind of meticulous, low intervention viticulture that defines the rest of the portfolio. In the cellar the wine follows the same native yeast, minimal handling approach used across all of Aubert's Pinots, letting the site's more restrained, elegant character shine through.
Tasting Notes
The 2024 vintage opens with warm Morello cherry, blackberry, and red plum, layered with fresh and dried iris, bergamot, and a ferrous mineral edge. The palate carries fresh cherry and blackberry oil intertwined with potpourri and sappy pine, unfolding across a long, complex finish with grenadine and blood orange lift. It pairs beautifully with roast duck, herb crusted rack of lamb, or a simple grilled salmon.
