The initial aroma is large, biscuity and grainy sweet; the aroma then becomes more sugar biscuit-like and a touch salty. Finishes elegantly, sweetly and malty, with just a barely discernable influence of the sea.
A vibrant young Laphroaig whose maturation has been accelerated by ageing in quarter casks. This shows soft sweetness and a velvety feel when first tasted, then the intense peatiness so unique to Laphroaig comes bursting through. A terrific whisky and great value.
Nose: Powerful smoke, sweet malt, wet turf, coal. Develops chocolate & cinnamon.
Palate: Full-bodied, rich and mouth-coating. Delicious sweet gristy malt and rich peat, woodsmoke. The coal appears mid-palate.
Finish: Very long, sweet and smoky, with the coal lingering longest.
To make this exquisite liquid, mature Laphroaig previously aged in refill hogsheads was transferred into first-fill ex-bourbon barrels and refill quarter casks. Patiently aged in Laphroaig’s famous Warehouse No. 1, these casks were then hand selected for a final maturation. This rare whisky features a touch of Laphroaig’s trademark peat smoke tempered by lime and sea salt. Laphroaig 27 Year Old has been double matured and bottled at cask strength
