Pouring a deeper ruby/magenta color, the 2022 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley is ripe and layered in the glass, with a generous, inviting, pure perfume of black cherries, cola, sweet baking spice, and forest floor. Medium-bodied, it has a lot of charm and...
Creamy mousse and delicate, long-lasting bead. Nose: Admirably rich, intense, and harmonious. Lovely, crisp spiciness with hints of apple and peach, plus wisteria and acacia blossom. Palate: Rich, forward fruitiness, with supple, velvety mouthfeel. Admirable fullness and length, closely mirroring the nose. A wine of great balance and elegance.
Tannat is arguably the signature grape of Uruguay, but I've been pretty impressed by the Albariño there too. FAAA! shows all the crisp, briny hallmarks of Albariño from Galicia, but a bit richer pear and melon fruit on the palate. It's not easy to find good examples of the grape under $20, so this is really a great deal for a super-flexible food-friendly white. This will be a real crowd-pleaser either as a walk-around or with dinner. - John Fitter | Addy Bassin's
FAAA! Albariño is made by third generation winemaker Santiago Deicas in the Juanico subregion of Canelones, Uruguay. The Deicas Family moved to South America from the Alpine town of Bormio, Italy and founded their winery in 1978. They first started planting Albariño in 2009 and now have approximately 12 acres of Albariño under vine. Juanico is a coastal region that benefits from a temperate climate and well drained soils that allow for a slow ripening period which enables the fruit to develop a natural acidity and salinity. - Importer notes (Brazos)
Pouring a youthful red hue, the 2023 Pinot Noir Roserock is elegant and mineral-toned, with notes of cinnamon, cranberries, crushed flowers, and dusty earth. The palate has lovely, salty freshness, with medium body, and it has mouthwatering acidity, ripe,...
The 2021 Pinot Noir Momtazi Vineyard shows the dark nature of the variety, mixing depths of crushed blackberry with hints of pine, rosemary and dusty earth. This is model of elegance on the palate, velvety in texture yet lifted in feel, with silken wil...
We tasted this a few months ago with owner Mark Vlossak and it was an instant staff favorite. I'm not sure why Pinot Blanc doesn't get more "love" as it's very food friendly and usually nicely priced. Mark started making this wine back in 1997. He's a true pioneer on the Oregon wine scene, and this comes from his most famous vineyard: Freedom Hill, which of course also produces world class Pinot Noir. Medium weight, with great texture and more aromatics than your usual Pinot Blanc, this is a an example of great vineyard practice and winemaking.
