NV Anne Gros - Cremant de Bourgogne (750ml}
Domaine Anne Gros is a small, highly regarded estate based in Vosne-Romanée, known primarily for its exceptional Pinot Noir from grand crus such as Clos de Vougeot, Echezeaux, and Richebourg. The domaine passed through several names before settling on Anne Gros in the late 1980s and 1990s, as Anne took over from her father, François, and built the estate's reputation as one of Burgundy's most sought-after addresses despite producing only a small volume of wine each year.
This Crémant de Bourgogne, bottled without a vintage, is made using the traditional method, with a second fermentation taking place in the bottle just as in Champagne. The blend draws on Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and a touch of the rare Aligoté grape, sourced from parcels within the wider Burgundy appellation, with the exact proportions shifting slightly from year to year depending on the fruit available.
The wine shows a pale golden color with fine, persistent bubbles. Aromas of green apple and pear lead into a palate marked by citrus and a chalky, mineral character reminiscent of wet stone. The finish is fresh and lively, carrying real vinous depth for a sparkling wine at this level.
