2022 Chateau Cheval Noir - St. Emilion HALF BOTTLE (375ml)

375ml | SKU 100319 | Available

The Mähler-Besse family knows the terroir in Saint Emilion extremely well and has worked closely with the best partners there to produce great wines. Present in Saint Emilion since 1937 with the acquisition of Château Cheval Noir, Mähler-Besse consolidated their position in this appellation with the purchase of Château La Couronne in 1992. Cheval Noir Saint Emilion is a blend made from a meticulous selection of lots from our estates and partner winegrowers.

The grapes come from clay-limestone and siliceous-gravel plots in Saint Emilion that produce elegant, fruity wines year in and year out. Contributing his considerable experience and know-how, Hubert de Boüard – oenologist and co-owner of Cheval Noir’s neighbour, Château Angélus – has been a consultant for the making of Cheval Noir Saint Emilion since 2010.

The lots of wine are carefully chosen, blended, and aged in order to display roundness, balance, and intrinsic fruitiness.

The 2023 Laroque might be the best wine David Suire has made since taking over here a few years ago. What I admire most about Laroque is its classicism—there is plenty of that on display here. Bright acids and persistent beams of supporting tannin frame d...

2021 Chateau Massiac Minervois (750ml)

750ml | SKU 100629 | 34 Available

This is the most important wine of the estate, a serious red vinified to reflect its capacity to age. The grapes are harvested at a point of slight “surmaturité” which captures the profound scents and flavors of the surrounding hillside “garrigue”. The cuvaison continues for at least a month; then, the wine is racked into tank for aging. The wine is bottled twenty to twenty-four months after harvest. As the wine ages in bottle, it develops enticing notes of juniper, rosemary and thyme as well as the savory flavors of wild berries and a hint of the “animal” … all in all, one of the more compelling values in our portfolio.
