Slightly tarry on the nose with roasted spices to the dark cherries and strawberries. Medium to full body on the palate with more innate fruit allures and tannins. Shows good balance and length with some fine-grained tannins. Drink or hold.
AMBLE + CHASE Rosé 2019 is pale salmon pink in color and shows complex aromas of raspberries, cherries and white flowers, giving way to notes of juicy strawberries and ripe red grapefruit on the palate. The wine has a persistent freshness and salty minerality thanks to the vines' southern exposure and cooling breezes from the Mediterranean.
LA BASTIDE SAINT VINCENT has been a family estate since the end of the 18th century, with a 23-hectare vineyard that is very fragmented and which offers Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Côtes du Rhône Villages Plan de Dieu, Côtes du Rhône and Vin de Pays de Vaucluse. Our 10 plots of Vacqueyras A.O.C. vines represent approximately 8 ha: 6 plots are located in different parts of the plateau des garrigues – a stony terrace dating from the Riss ice age – while 4 plots are on either side of the village of Vacqueyras.
The average age of the vines is over 40 years: the yields are therefore low, which is favourable for the quality of the wines. Grenache largely dominates, complemented by mourvèdre and syrah. The hand-picking allows us to rigorously sort the bunches. The grapes are de-stemmed, lightly crushed, then vinified traditionally in enamelled concrete vats, with a vatting period of about 2 weeks. 100% matured in vats, PAVANE is our only cuvée de Vacqueyras.
A fruity and floral garnacha with bright cherries, ripe strawberries, slate, potpourri and roasted spices. Intense and medium-bodied with velvety tannins that round the juicy berries and flowers on the palate. There’s a coffee-candy note in the finish tha...
Grapes for both the Rivesaltes and Rancio sec are Grenache gris, harvested by hand from a small 1.9-hectare vineyard of 70-year old goblet vines. Following fermentation and a week-long maceration, elevage is undertaken in a former horse stable situated behind the chateau, a truly special place for the rearing of oxidative wines. The wines are kept in used 225-liter Bordelais fûts, stacked twos and threes, and year-by-year they concentrate and develop the rich texture and notable rancio character that is a hallmark of their elevage.
Located in small village of Sainte Colombe de la Commanderie, on the terroir of Aspres, at the foothills of Mont Canigou, the last peak in the Pyrenees before the Mediterranean sea. Aspres means arid or dry in Cataln, depicting the chalky clay and schist soil of the region, which is the best terroir for vins doux naturels made of Grenache noir, Maccabeo and Grenache gris. Georges Mossé (1884 – 1964), the father of the current owner, decided to not sell the entire harvest each year but instead preserve some great vintages in oak after WWI. That’s why we are fortunate to have these exceptional wines in barrels.
The Chave name needs no introduction. Jean-Louis and his wife Erin also make top notch negoce wines that they source from exceptional growers. It helps to be "in the know"! This blend of Grenache and Syrah has long been one of the best buys in Rhone wine.
"...an under-the-radar favorite among KLWM staff but also was named winemaker of the year by multiple French magazines in recent years. So it follows that such a talented vigneron is able to find finesse where many others find power. Sylvain Fadat of Domaine d’Aupilhac does so by blending organically grown Grenache, Cinsault, Carignan, Syrah, and a splash of Alicante Bouchet, and aging half the blend in foudre and the other half in stainless steel for six months. He uses a light vinification and these aging vessels to preserve fresh, juicy fruit characteristics without extracting too much tannic structure. The result is simultaneously elegant and full of the aromas and flavors we associate with this slice of France..."
The perfect "house red". Made from purchased as well as Estate fruit, this is a great intro to the Mourchon style. Sunshine in a glass -close your eyes and you can smell the lavendar and lamb roasting over old vine cuttings! 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah
Mourchon makes one of the best CDR Blancs in all of the Southern Rhone. A nice blend of 40% Viognier, 20% Grenache Blanc, 20% Roussanne and Marsanne, 20% Clairette and Bourboulenc.
A custom cuvée for European Cellars and a joint project between Eric Solomon and Jean-Marc Lafage, Bastide Miraflors is a cuvée created from old vine Grenache (30%) grown on the schist and granite soils of Saint-Paul de Fenouillet, a terroir that always ripens late in the year, and Syrah (70%) from gravelly soils near the Mediterranean. After a long maceration of six weeks, the wine ages for 12 months in roughly 3/4 concrete vats and 1/4 600L French oak demi-muids.
Les Rouliers is the last born of Henri Bonneau's wines. The few rows of vines that make up Les Rouliers are found in the Gard region around a little Grenache and Cinsault.
This latest Rouliers draw is quite simply edifying with its aromatic accuracy and presence on the palate. A word of advice, serve blind during your tastings, it will easily compete with the best Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
Do not be fooled by the reputation of table wines, the "Les Rouliers" cuvée is simply a wine that does not fit into the nails of an appellation. And that's good, because it suits him perfectly.
My favorite of the multi-vintage blends, the NV Maury 30 Ans is similarly colored to the 20 year, with an amber/toffee and semi-opaque color. Beautifully ripe, with lots of candied licorice, almond, old cigar and brown sugar, it’s medium to full-bodied, p...
